Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the community for details.
An important representative stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
